OLGC Computer Corner
Mrs. Briody and Mrs. Dykes
Welcome to the OLGC School Technology website. Links are provided for the Arlington Diocesan Technology Curriculm, software that is used for each grade level to deliver the curriculum, a technology overview, as well as some helpful educational websites. Thank you for the blessing of teaching your children. We have enjoyed teaching critical technology skills to OLGC students for over a decade.
OLGC is very forunate to have a Technology lab.  Here are some ways that technology is used:
  • Kindergarten through Sixth grade work on keyboarding. A vast majority of our students exceed the Diocesan goal of 30 wpm with 95 % accuracy by the time they graduate.
  • Second Graders create multimedia stories using graphics, text, music, and sound effects with the Storybook Weaver program. Their stories centered on their favorite things including vacations, animals, parties, sports, movies, books, etc. They then present their stories in front of their computer classmates using the interactive whiteboard.
  • Fourth Grade learns to introduce clip art into their documents. They created a wonderful Halloween poem with a beautiful pumpkin clipart as the background.
  • Seventh Graders work on a stock market project, stuents form investment groups, research stock’s past and projected performance. They create spreadsheets, using Microsoft Excel, and track their profits or losses.
  • Eighth Graders chose a country they would like to visit, write a simple business letter to the Embassies. Research foods, transportation and other interesting facts about their country to create a brochure about their country using Microsoft Publisher. They will create an expense spreadsheet using Microsoft Excel and track their travel expenses. Several past students have reported helping their family with travel plans for their vacations and using the skills they have learned during this travel project!
